GB News widens its lead over the BBC News Channel and Sky News

GB News has stretched its lead over both Sky News and the BBC News Channel, cementing its position as Britain’s Number One News Channel.

Latest official BARB figures show GB News increased its average audience by 2.2% in September, while both of the channel’s main rivals saw their audiences decline.

GB News averaged 84,147 viewers in September, an increase of 1,841 viewers (2.2%) on August, giving the channel an audience share of 1.60%.

By comparison, the BBC News Channel averaged 67,527 viewers, down 3.5% month-on-month, with a 1.28% audience share.

Sky News averaged 64,440 viewers, a fall of 2.7%, giving it a 1.22% audience share.

GB News therefore finished September 30.6% ahead of Sky News and 24.6% ahead of the BBC News Channel, with both margins wider than the previous month.

The figures mean GB News has now been the UK’s number one news channel for 14 months.

The latest ratings success came during a frenetic month for British news, with major stories including Andy Burnham’s first speech to Labour Party conference, the RAF Fairford terror plot and the Premier League’s verdict on Manchester City.

Ben Briscoe, Head of Programming at GB News, said: “These figures show once again that GB News is the undisputed number one news channel in Britain.

“Fourteen months at the top is a clear trend, and the gap is getting wider.

“September was an extraordinary month for news, from the Labour Party conference to the RAF Fairford terror plot and the Premier League’s verdict on Manchester City.

“When the biggest stories broke, Britain turned to GB News for the very best breaking news coverage and stayed for the sharpest analysis of the day’s major stories.

“Our rivals are going backwards. We are pulling further ahead.”
