Hotel Wrexham and Savvy Fox secure four-star Visit Wales accreditation

Hotel Wrexham and The Savvy Fox Pub, have been awarded four-star accreditation by Visit Wales, the official tourism ratings body.

The accolade marks a significant milestone for the business and provides a major boost for the wider Wrexham visitor economy, recognising the quality of the guest experience, accommodation, facilities, service and overall operation.

The four-star status places Hotel Wrexham among a select group of high-quality accommodation venues across Wales and reinforces Wrexham’s growing reputation as a destination for leisure and business visitors.

Peter Schriewersmann, commercial director of Hotel Wrexham and The Savvy Fox Pub, said:

“This is one of those real milestone moments.

“Ever since we came to Wrexham and acquired the old Holt Lodge Hotel in 2024, we have tried to make things better and, importantly, play our part in the community.

“Today’s announcement gives Hotel Wrexham and The Savvy Fox, and the whole team who put so much effort in every day, some independent recognition. That means a huge amount to all of us.

“We love being in Wrexham and will continue to play our part, striving to make the hotel, restaurant and the town itself an even better place to visit, work and live.

“Thank you to everyone in Wrecsam who has supported and encouraged us on the journey so far. Let’s keep going.”

The comments were echoed by Steven Hesketh, founder of Savvy Collective, which supported the purchase of the property for £1.6 million in May 2024, and has since invested a further £1 million.

Hesketh said:

“The four-star accreditation is particularly important because it is independent recognition of the progress the team has made.

“When we acquired Holt Lodge, we saw an opportunity to invest in the property, create something that would be commercially successful, but also become a genuine part of the Wrexham community.

“That investment is now translating into a stronger business, more jobs, higher occupancy and a much broader hospitality offer, from food and drink to weddings, events and community activity.

“We are ambitious for Hotel Wrexham and The Savvy Fox, but we are equally ambitious for Wrexham. The town has enormous potential as a visitor destination, and businesses like ours have a responsibility to help realise that potential.

“This accreditation is recognition of how far we have come, but it is not the finishing line. We will continue to invest, improve and create an experience that gives people another reason to visit Wrexham – and another reason to come back.”

In recent years, the business has recorded substantial growth across its operations:

Total revenue has almost doubled from just under £1m in 2022/23 to a forecast £2m million in 2026/27, alongside hotel occupancy which has increased from 53.2% in 2022 to a forecasted 78% in 2026.

Additionally, headcount has grown from 13 to approximately 40 employees.

The business has also expanded beyond traditional hotel operations, developing its food, events, weddings and community offerings, including now their Summer Music Festivals.

The investment in the property since its acquisition in 2024 has supported the growth of Hotel Wrexham and The Savvy Fox.

Savvy Collective has further invested in Wrexham, with the recent opening of the ground floor of the Old Library on Queen’s Street, relaunching as Queen’s Square Social.

Located within the redeveloped former library building in Queen’s Square, the new venue has been designed as a contemporary social destination that blends food, drink, entertainment and community events within a landmark city-centre setting.

Queen’s Square Social is expected to play a key role in Wrexham city centre’s evolving hospitality landscape, with plans to host regular entertainment, social events and community gatherings throughout the year.

The business has also invested in The Old Registry in Chester Street, and is currently finalising its refurbishment.
