How Molton Brown, Tom Dixon & Holland & Barrett are cracking China

With international expansion into China becoming increasingly cost-prohibitive for British brands, a new retail model launched this month in Suzhou is changing the playbook. Boundless Matro Boutique Village has just officially opened, allowing 14 major UK brands—including Molton Brown, Tom Dixon, Holland & Barrett, Lalage Beaumont and Rupert Sanderson—to enter the Chinese market without the risk or cost of traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts.
Boundless Matro has introduced a new retail model aimed at helping overseas brands enter the Chinese market without the cost and risk of standalone stores or large-scale inventory commitments.  Located within 22 restored 1950s warehouses beside the UNESCO-listed Humble Administrator’s Garden, the project combines physical showrooms with a fully digital purchasing model: brands display curated samples in dedicated country pavilions while transactions and fulfilment are handled via the Boundless Matro platform and bonded logistics network.
The Village includes a “House of Britain” pavilion featuring UK brands including Tom Dixon, Molton Brown, Rupert Sanderson and Lalage Beaumont, alongside dedicated Italian, Japanese and Australian pavilions.
Located adjacent to the UNESCO-listed Humble Administrator’s Garden, one of the city’s most vibrant tourist districts, Boundless Matro Boutique Village is a masterclass in urban regeneration. The site comprises 22 meticulously-restored, red-brick warehouses dating back to the 1950s. Spanning 25,000 square metres, the project preserves traditional Suzhou aesthetics, blue bricks, black tiles, and elegant courtyards, while housing cutting-edge international fashion and design. This unique setting has already earned the site status as a National AAA Tourist Attraction and a National Demonstration Site for Urban Renewal.
