Change and leadership practice specialist Steve Hearsum – founder of Edge + Stretch – is set to share his wisdom about ‘organisational absurdities’ at a business event this June.
Having spent the past three decades helping organisations, teams and individuals develop sustainable and repeatable practices to achieve success, Steve will share insights from his career during a session at the Organisational Absurdities Unveiled event, taking place on Tuesday 23rd June at the People’s History Museum in Manchester.
The day, billed as a ‘different kind of conference’, encourages attendees to explore the quirks that exist in organisational life, and how they can uncover them and intervene in order to achieve better outcomes. Some of the major realities and contradictions that exist within businesses will be highlighted: not only why they happen, but why so many collude with them, and how people can begin having much-needed real, honest conversations.
The organisers state: “Our Sense Makers at Reimagine Events invite you into a space to reflect deeply on the nuances of organisational life. To take time out of your busy day to properly explore, without being rushed to the next speaker and topic, as is often the case at conventional events that major on short, sharp, nuggets of easy to digest placebo-like quick fix solutions.”
Steve, who authored the book No Silver Bullet and has worked with clients including the Virgin/O2, John Lewis Partnership, Brakes Foodservice, Somerset House, Mars and many public sector organisations, added: “I’m looking forward to working with people to explore their experience of the absurdity and contradictions that are often at the heart of organisational dysfunctions. Over the past 30 years or so, it has become clear to me that the ability to engage in useful discomfort in service of learning is what makes the difference. That means things like fear, anxiety and shame , because without delving into these, and talking about the real challenges within business, meaningful change remains elusive.
“I’d encourage anyone who doesn’t want to hear the same tropes wheeled out time and time again to think about attending the event in June. Its entire premise is to get you thinking, stepping out of your comfort zone, and addressing the elephants in the room that you’ve not only been avoiding talking about – you’ve been feeding them…”
Attendees will also get to work with Charleen Johnson from the Behaving Badly HQ and creator of the 2026 Workplace Absurdities Report.
