Resort Reinvents Itself as a Growing North West Tourist Favourite Amid £20m Regeneration Drive

Rhyl’s impressive 10-year transformation is gathering pace, reinforcing its position as a long-loved North West destination for tourists seeking vibrant seaside experiences. The Our Rhyl/Ein Rhyl Board has announced a major expansion of its membership, a bold recruitment drive, and encouraging early interest from investors as the town’s £20m regeneration plans advance into their next phase.

The update comes as the Board launches its new bilingual websites and builds momentum following the submission of the Pride in Place plan to UK Government.

During the latest Board meeting, members voted to widen the committee to reflect even greater diversity across the town’s sectors — from charities and small businesses to education providers, community groups and faith organisations. Recruitment will begin shortly, with new members set to join in Spring 2026.

This development aligns with updated UK Government guidance, which states that all Boards must transition to a community-led model by Year 3 of the programme – by 2029. For Rhyl, a visitor favourite already known for its welcoming community spirit, this could mean evolving into a co-operative, Community Interest Company, charity, or a model supported by an established “anchor institution”.

Earlier that day, Chair Craig Sparrow and Savills Director Nick Bennett showcased the £20m regeneration proposals at the RICS Wales CPD event at Rhyl’s Queen’s Market. The plans were warmly received by up to 40 RICS members, sparking conversations around long-term collaboration and future visitor opportunities.

Craig expressed pride and delight at reaching this milestone following months of extensive engagement.

“I’m from Rhyl, so it has been a privilege to serve as Chair. Since March we’ve come a long way, and while £20m over 10 years doesn’t sound a lot, we are already looking to grow this to £30m, £40m, £50m by attracting private investment – and have already had discussions with interested parties, which is very exciting.

“We have listened carefully through detailed public consultation, sometimes challenging, always constructive, and everyone shares the same goal – a stronger, regenerated Rhyl.

“An expanded Board means even more touchpoints across the town, and increased community and business involvement alongside our existing members including the MP, MS, council, business, police and others. Together we can shape the future of Our Rhyl.”

He also confirmed that the Board will prioritise the creation of a new community fund for smaller projects, ensuring Rhyl’s diverse organisations — including many that contribute to its tourism appeal — can benefit from timely support.

Nick highlighted the extraordinary level of engagement from residents, businesses and visitors alike:

“People told us about the need for a stronger retail offer, safer streets, opportunities to tackle poverty, more for the town centre and more celebration of the amazing work of the third sector.

“Rhyl is loved; it has been at the heart of North Wales for generations. There is huge potential here and this initiative is incredibly exciting. Rhyl is a place of life, of character – distinctly, Our Rhyl.”

With tourism playing a major role in Rhyl’s identity, the Board emphasised that transparency and inclusivity remain central to its approach. All proposals have been shaped through UK Government guidance and thousands of interactions — from workshops and pop-ups to youth sessions, surveys, and conversations with both locals and visitors.

Now, with the Pride in Place plan submitted, the Board awaits the Government’s decision and encourages residents to remain engaged.

“This is a moment for unity,” said Craig.

“We thank the people of Rhyl for their support, scrutiny and ideas. Over the coming decade we want an engaged, proactive Board supported by new action groups, we need expertise and positivity.

“There’s lots of talk on social media and a need for further clarity. We are the Board, we are independent, and we need action – together.”
