Bringing Back the Family Doctor: A Modern Approach to Preventative Care

With pressure on GPs growing and demand for preventative, personalised healthcare rising, a new service aims to bring back the traditional family doctor for communities across North Wales.

Launching this month ahead of its full opening in January, West End Health is set to reshape local private healthcare. Founded by lifelong friends Aaron Ferguson and Andy Boyd, together with Dr Trevor Ferguson, the Colwyn Bay-based service will introduce the region’s first premium GP and preventative health membership.

West End Health will offer unlimited GP access, same-day appointments, and comprehensive annual health and dental assessments — all without needing to travel to major cities.

“We’re bringing back what people miss and need most in healthcare: personal care, time and trust,” said Aaron, Managing Director of West End Dental and one of the project’s driving forces.

“The NHS is full of brilliant people doing their absolute best under immense pressure, but the system is often forced into reactive care. West End Health is built to do the opposite — to give people time, continuity and proactive support so we can keep them well for years to come.”

Their slogan — Reassured today. Protected for the years ahead. — reflects this focus on long-term, preventative support.

Each adult member will receive a detailed two-stage annual health review, combining medical and dental screening, targeted cancer checks, and a full results consultation. Members will also have unlimited GP appointments and same-day access, with standard consultations lasting 30 minutes.

“If you ring us at 2pm, there’s a good chance you’ll be seen before 5pm,” said Andy. “It’s about certainty and continuity — knowing your doctor and knowing you’ll be seen when you need to be.”

The clinical team is led by Dr Faiza Murad, whose background includes endocrinology and internal medicine, with expertise in diabetes, weight management, and women’s health, including menopause care. She is supported by Dr Trevor Ferguson, bringing decades of combined experience.

“We’ve built West End Health around the idea that the best care starts with relationships and real understanding,” said Andy. “People deserve a doctor who knows their story, takes the time to listen, and works with them to stay well. That’s exactly what this model makes possible.

“We’re not here to replace the NHS; we’re creating an additional layer of support for families who want time, continuity and proactive care that’s increasingly difficult to access in mainstream services.”

The founders plan to expand beyond Colwyn Bay, creating a multi-site model of joined-up preventative care across North Wales and, eventually, further afield.

“This is the first service of its kind in North Wales,” said Aaron. “Families shouldn’t have to travel to big cities for modern, joined-up care. West End Health brings that standard home, combining prevention, convenience and genuine relationships.”

For Aaron and Andy, who met at Conway Road Infants School more than 35 years ago, the project is personal. “We’ve been friends since childhood and have shared a lifelong passion for building things that make a difference,” said Andy. “Now, as parents ourselves, we’re proud to be creating a service that helps people live longer, healthier lives.”

Places are limited, with Founder Member offers including 15% off adult and family plans and a refer-a-friend scheme. Interested families can visit the West End Health website or contact the team directly.
