Network Rail keeps employee wellness nicely on track with Gympass

Network Rail – the owner and operator of Britain’s railway infrastructure – is keeping the wellness of its 40,000-plus employees nicely on track by partnering with Gympass, the UK’s leader in corporate fitness sales.

The partnership enables all Network Rail employees to access over 2,000 different fitness facilities – from small boutique studios to large leisure centres – across the country at a reduced rate.

Network Rail prioritises its employees’ health and wellness considering it the cornerstone of its organisation and central to its business strategy of ‘Everyone Fit for the Future’ which seeks to:

  • Enable, through sustainable, pre-emptive measures, healthy and productive employees
  • Focus on protecting its employees to reduce the impact of occupational health hazards
  • Encourage effective health and wellbeing management

As a national employer with many teams undertaking shift work, Network Rail needs a corporate fitness solution to cater for the varied needs of its employees. Gympass has been chosen to help Network Rail address the two key causes of absenteeism: musculoskeletal disorders and mental health-related absence.

Dr Richard Peters, Network Rail’s chief medical officer, said:

“The physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our staff remains a top priority. We want our employees to have access to facilities that can allow improved ownership of their health, as well as that of their family members, when and where it suits them. This partnership will allow us to focus on both physical and mental wellbeing which, in turn, will help support a healthier and happier work-life balance.”

Gympass is key to Network Rail’s new employee benefits platform which launched in August 2019 to bring together its comprehensive range of health and wellness activities and benefits.

Pietro Carmignani, CEO UK & IE Gympass, said:

“Network Rail is passionate and determined to support its employees and its ethos perfectly matches our mission to defeat inactivity within corporate organisations. We are greatly encouraged by the success of the partnership so far and look forward to hosting a number of wellbeing events in the next phase of our relationship to encourage employees to be physically active more often.”
